In COM 638, I completed a content analysis on how the International Planned Parenthood Federation addressed reproductive care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, I looked at their blog series COVID-19 Impact – What we know so far, in which leaders from various countries were highlighted and interviewed about the impacts to care in their communities.
Through assignments like these, I learned the importance of global communications in broadening perspectives regarding many topics. Computer-mediated communication (CMC) increases accessibility to information about communities outside of our own. This helps us to see that maybe our practices aren’t so different from another place, or opens our eyes to disparities we didn’t know existed.
